Stupid boobs. I went to go bra shopping today coz I need to go up to a 12D and the cheapest I could find was $30. I refuse to spend $30 on a bra.

Maybe they'll shrink again. :-/

Incidentally I really, really wish I could afford a corset.

Rec for all Harry/Draco shippers @ 02:47 pm

[info]shellydkitty:
Current Mood: giddy

I've been meaning to rec this piece ever since I saw it and every time I click on the link, I just end up staring at it and grinning like a kid with cotton candy.

[info]hd_fanart (on LJ) is having a fanart fest (which I just discovered--yes I am slow) and this was the first piece posted and it just makes me incredibly happy. It's a short story of Harry and Draco sightseeing in Paris and it's just squee-inducing. Harry's enthusiasm jumps off the screen--it's infectious--and you can hear Draco's droll comments in the first few panels, and I love the style and the coloring and really, if you like H/D, I can't imagine that you wouldn't like this.

Sights by anon (for now--can't wait to discover who the artist is!) - Harry/Draco, PG-13 and there's a bit of an epilogue that's implied-R.

Plus, there's a bonus ficlet! [info]byaghro (LJ) who submitted the prompt, wrote a companion piece that's pretty much the exact story I had in my head while viewing the artwork.

It's certainly making the work day a bit better. ;)

~

In other news, I couldn't resist the HBP calendar scans and I made icons for anyone who's interested. And yes, [info]kabal42, there's several smiling Harry ones--that was the first one I did. :D

I wish I could justify buying this. A 1903 "Clara in Blunderland" parody of the politics of the Boer War. The starting bid is $40, which is less than I've spent on some books (>.>) but I should be calming down my mad purchasing of old shit.

I am, however, more tempted by these 1897 issues of the Friends' Intelligencer and Journal, a Quaker journal from Philadelphia.

Current Events - covering news such as:
- Most disastrous Mississippi Floods ever recorded
- Preparations by Turks Against Greece
- Treaty with England ratified by Venezuela
- Tests of Milk
- First Woman Rabbi in a Jewish Synagogue
- Carnegie Steel to build the first steel fire-proof building in Japan
- Serious failure of crops in Ireland may lead to famine
- Yellow fever in New Orleans

And an actual English one from 1896, "A Domestic Magazine of Useful Information & Amusement", as well as this one from 1886 aimed at young unmarried women of the respectable middle class.

I should have a look at the damage of the books I got from great grandma's place before it got sold up, a couple of them are around turn of the century too.

Current Music: Shakespear's Sister #3

I'm going to be keeping my internet interaction to a minimum. I've not been doing so well lately and have trouble interacting with people or knowing how to deal with them. So, I probably won't be keeping up with people too much while I'm feeling this way.

I can't promise anything this year, but if anyone wants a Paris-mas card this year, then let me know below (comments are screened) or email me at: django24 @ yahoo.com (without the spaces) If you didn't get one last year or you've changed your address since last December then I'll need the new address. Once again, I'll remind everyone that although I appreciate the thought or gesture, I don't want anything to do with the December C word and consider it offensive to my beliefs and my experiences. Thank you to those who respected my wishes on that score last year. Similarily if anyone wants to send me a non C card, I'd appreciate if it wasn't made by the Paris hating scum at Hallmark as I wouldn't want them profiting in my name.

Chain Drabbling @ 02:56 pm

[info]shellydkitty:
Current Mood: tired

I'm trying to resist writing an emo-angsty journal entry because it is over the stupidest thing ever and so not worth it, but it still may happen later. *sigh*

But for now, let's focus on something happy!

[info]alisanne wrote this lovely drabble entitled Obsession. I got a little silly in the comments and replied with the aptly titled, Obsession II which she convinced me to post officially. And then I woke up this morning to find she'd continued it with Obsession III ([info]alisanne and I are masters at the whole title thing) which delighted me to no end!

It reminded me of that game I used to play growing up where you'd tell a story with your friends by each writing one sentence at a time, or that improv game where you'd tell a story by each adding one word at a time (that was craziness). Lots of fun!

ETA: Totally forgot to say, but all drabbles are of the Harry/Draco variety and none rated higher than PG I think (anyway, no naughtiness or extreme violence. *g*)

Runway For Change:

Runway For Change is an online store featuring several top designers, with merchandise supporting Obama. At least part of the proceeds from each sale go towards his campaign. If I had the money, I would definitely be getting some of these things!

I really hope they catch the person who did this:

How someone could do such a horrible thing to another person, I will never know.

Help us put an end to Autism:

Now, this is a cause that I feel very strongly about. Many of you may already know that my daughter, who will be eleven in January, has Autism. This is something I don't talk about all that much, since to me, she's my little girl. But I live with this reality every day, so I think this is wonderful. Please take a look.

DragonCon Room Rush @ 10:22 am

[info]deborak:
Apparently, in less than 24 hours of reservations being open, the Atlanta Marriott Marquis sold out its D*C room block (1100 rooms, according to the hotel rep)! Last year the same scenario took 2 months to sell out, the year before, 4 months. Next year, what, an hour, lol?

My niece was at work all day yesterday and missed out on calling the Marriott, but I helped her get a weekend reservation at the Hyatt for her group. They're young and fit, and can deal with the elevator hell and/or stair climbing over there.

Other news: keeping myself very busy writing, sewing, keeping Bill's paperwork going, and with genealogy work of all kinds. Then there's the housekeeping and yardwork. and screwing around on the Internet. Right now I have to run off and pay bills. Hope all of my flist is doing well today.

* Post three things you've done that you believe no one else reading has done.
* If anyone responds with "I've done that", add another thing.
* Encourage your friends to paste this into their own journal to list the unique things they've done.

Been to the Waitomo Caves.
Ridden a cow. You crazy hicks.
Been invited in for a "cup of tea" at one in the morning by an attractive man - and actually had a cup of tea.
As a child, played at one of the filming locations for Heavenly Creatures.
Skipped the country. One week's planning, waited for housemate to leave, packed, taxi to train station.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next seven sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

In addition to speaking properly, a well-bred woman studied the fine art of conversation. It seems she needed the help. Based on the advice given, she was apparently kept silent for so long that when called upon to converse, she blurted out the details of Uncle Ed's appendectomy in a loud, nasal tone while spraying her companions with every consonant.

Vocabulary was another area for study and improvement. Women were warned against using the term "ma'am" and the phrase "pleased to meet you". A long list of forbidden slang words must have been quite effective, because today no one's ever heard of most of them. (Try to translate: "The yappy frails jawed about the spiffilicated stew bum.")

(If you're curious, it means the foolish girls talked about the drunk... drunkard. Or loafer. Loafer will do.) I actually had two books in easy grabbing distance, so here's the second:

She crushed something - another wasp, of course, what else - even as it stung her again, even as she opened her eyes and saw them all around her: yellow-brown insects that looked weighted down in the tailsection, plump ungainly poison factories.

She had slid into a dead tree standing at the foot of the slope about twenty-fice feet from the brawling streamlet. In the dead tree's lowest fork, just at eye level to a little girl who was nine but tall for her age, was a gray paper nest. Agitated wasps were crawling all over it; more were flying out of a hole in the top.

Pain needled the right side of Trisha's neck, just below the bill of her cap. Another sting lit up her right arm above the elbow.

Today I received Advice from the Attic: Perilous Pearls of Wisdom on Beauty, Charm and Etiquette. Already I have learned that it is poor manners to bring a lizard to the theatre!

I've also found that I am absolutely fascinated by these books. If we'd covered anything like this in history sections in Social Studies I would have been more interested in history, I suspect. This book has a slightly later time period than I'm mostly interested in - it has some from the late nineteenth century, a little from earlier, and a fair amount from the first half of the twentieth, but it's still brilliant.

Meme!
I saw this meme from one of my friends over on LJ and thought it sounded like fun. I love Google Image searches.

01. Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.
02. Go to Google Images and search for that word.
03. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results (don't tell me the word).
04. Put this in your own journal so that I can do the same.

Y'all should do it, too! Wee picspam!

Torchwood!
I finally watched the first episode of Torchwood Season 2, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. (Actually I've seen the first 3 episodes now.) I think I promised [info]andreth_47 play by play reactions *g* so I typed furiously while watching it. I've tried to clean up my notes here, but uh...they still might not make much sense.

Yes, I understand the Gun!Porn now. )

Bonus!
And I will leave you all with a crack!fic I stumbled on today (actually I have no idea how I got there, but so glad I did). It's Twilight. It's Edward/Sarah Palin. It asks the question, what would have happened if Bella wasn't the first girl Edward fell for? And it's told through love letters. How can you resist?

(And if you're worried cause I would be, it's rated for General Audiences.)

I picked a random icon for this post and now I see how appropriate it is.

I am so sorry Em.

Florence's history section is officially 23 paragraphs. It was sitting on 17 for Childhood and Schooling and then I added six more now in regards to her worklife and blood-status fraud.

So now I just have to do the writing samples.

And then wait.

For over two weeks.

Until apps open.
