I'd forgotten what a shocking expose of an uncaring society and the modern world that A Clockwork Orange was. Take the scene where a woman hears a young man at her door, telling her there's been an accident down the road, his friend's been hurt badly and he needs to use a phone to call an ambulance. And the woman just refuses to help him, directing him to a further away pub for assistance. What a shockingly callous and uncaring world!

On penicillin capsules for my chest infection. I hope that clears it up as this has been my fourth out of five sick days used up and I was as bad as ever yesterday. Finished reading L.A. Confidential and started the first of the Dexter novels "Dearly Devoted Dexter". In the early chapters at least, it's almost like a novelisation, but I know the books are a bit different and the TV series stopped following the novels after the first season/book.

"What's there to smile about?" Malcolm McDowell's character asks, towards the end of O Lucky Man! I like that. Don't have an answer for him. Except Paris, of course. But she wasn't around back when that film was made, so it's no wonder poor Malcolm has to ask the question (that and him always getting arrested and attacked by old tramps 'n' stuff).

The cause of Intellectualism gains a donation for every person who reads this post :P I don't like Intellectualism much though - too elitist. So feel free to deny them donations, ha ha! Oops, too late!

It's been a ridiculously long time since I've seen A Clockwork Orange, I may just have to revisit it very soon!

Hope the penicillin caps work their magic! I'm allergic to all kinds of 'cillin' based meds, I have to rely on the alternative stuff. Yay being allergic to everything on the planet! XDDD

I couldn't resist the special edition DVD and it's extras including a feature length retrospective on Malcolm McDowell. Funny how I first saw the movie on crappy quality bootleg video in the 90s when it was still banned (or "withdrawn") in the UK and since then I've seen it at a mainstream cinema and it can now have a snazzy DVD special edition.

I think the penicillin did make me feel a little poorly yesterday when I started using them (reminding me of hospital experiences of medication making me sick and giving me unwelcome temperature changes), but they seem to have merged with my metabolism today. I had an allergic reaction to morphine when I was in hospital, which is ironic considering the place a girl with morphine in her name once had in my heart.

Thank you for the soup :)

Sorry that you're still feeling sick. I think job-hunting is bad for anyone's health.

Thank you and I agree. And other people having the power to make you do things you may not want to, can be stressful and disheartening.

I hope you feel better soon.

I felt a bit odd reading the Dexter books, and I'm not sure I like the novel's characterization as much as the show's.

Thank you :)

I don't know what I'll think of the book franchise this early in, but I found it interesting that the TV and book series can be quite different in major ways.

Thank you :) That's why I used up so many valuable sick days as I knew home was the best place to recover and it's awful being stuck outside on buses and sat at desks all day when you just want to lie down.
